The European NEMMO project, in which INPRE participated, concluded in September 2023 with the manufacture of 4 tidal stream blades.
Three of the blades will be installed on a platform in the Orkney Islands in Scotland. The fourth will be used to carry out certification tests.
This milestone culminates the NEMMO project, initiated in 2019 – extended by one year due to the pandemic – in which 12 companies have worked on the development of different technologies that evolve the design, operability, and durability of these blades, which, unlike wind turbine blades, are installed in a generator 20 meters below the sea surface.
This project has represented an R challenge for INPRE COMPOSITES, which has specialized in the manufacture of nacelle housings and wind turbine hubs for 30 years. Although the raw materials and manufacturing processes are similar, the structural characteristics and technical requirements make their manufacture more costly and require the development of much more precise and complex procedures.
